BRAHMA

The artist known as Brahma has been producing his beautiful works for over 30 years.
Beginning his creative life as an artist during the sixties, Brahma lived in Ladbroke Grove, hanging out with artists and musicians, inspired by the vibe and creativity around him. He became great friends with Raja Ram and his band Quintessence, a very popular local folk band with a strong spiritual element. Later he moved to Wales with a small group of like minded artists and their families to pursue his painting.

Through his friend Assheton Gorton, a well known art director and production designer in the film business, Brahma began to get work on commercials and in film which allowed him to provide for his family while pursuing his goal of painting. It also enabled him to learn a great deal about how to paint in different styles and to master many different techniques. After years working as not only a scenic artist but eventually as an art director and production designer, Brahma started to paint for the large music events being put on by his friend Raja Ram. Brahma’s years of painting for the film industry had fitted him to work on a large scale and this opportunity allowed him to be creative again. His interest and knowledge of ancient civilizations and interest in Spituality fitted the remit for the kind of banners required at these events.

In the years that followed Brahma received many private commissions and also designed album covers and stage costumes.

Brahma has spent much of the last 20 years travelling the world (Russia, Japan, USA to name but a few), touring with Raja Ram, now a hugely successful trance DJ, transforming the many venues into rooms of wonder with his magical art.

For the first time, Brahma is now changing his perspective in order to produce works on a smaller, domestic scale.

Much of Brahmas work is now in private collections here in the U.K and abroad. Highly acclaimed by many worldwide, Brahma would now like his work to be enjoyed by people in their own homes, he is now focused on scaling down his work to a more suitable size for domestic situations.

Techniques.
Brahma works on bleached white cotton cloth using fluorescent dyes in a gel medium.
His art is produced using a combination of drawing and spray work through elaborate hand cut stencils and painting using brushes. Permanent felt markers are sometimes used to delineate areas.
His work can also be viewed in a mixture of black light and warm ambient light. This brings out the 3D qualities inherent in his designs.
